HC turns heat on slaughterhouses
Patna: A Patna High Court division bench on Monday directed the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) commissioner and urban development secretary to take action against unauthorised slaughterhouses in the city and take remedial measures to prevent open slaughtering.
The bench of Justice Navin Sinha and Justice Vikash Jain directed the officers to appear on April 28, the next date of hearing, if they fail to come out with concrete measures in this regard. The court passed the direction on a public interest litigation filed by Swamy Rakesh seeking direction to the PMC authorities to ban the ongoing slaughter in the open in flagrant violation of the provisions of Patna Municipal Act. The Act not only prohibits slaughtering in the open but also has penal provisions for violations of the Act. PMC had submitted that the corporation was contemplating to shift all the small slaughter units being run on the roadside outside the city.

lpatna: A Patna high court division bench of Justice Navin Sinha and Justice Vikash Jain on Monday directed the director-general of police, the urban development department secretary and Patna Municipal Corporation commissioner to come out with a plan of action for removal of khatals and rehabilitation of their owners within a week. The court passed the direction while hearing a PIL seeking direction to shift khatals from outside Patna town.

lbettiah: Police, acting on a tip-off, seized at least four countrymade pistols and several rounds of live cartridges from Laxman Choudhary, a resident of Dumri village under the jurisdiction of Yogapatti police station in West Champaran district, on Monday. Laxman had surrendered before the police in 2009.
