Duo get 14 years in jail for drugs

Patna: Additional district and sessions judge Anil Kumar Singh on Tuesday sentenced Yasim Alam and Bhairo Singh to 14 years’ rigorous imprisonment in a narcotics case. gamkuan police had caught Alam, a resident of Samaspur under the jurisdiction of Bela police station in Gaya, and Bhairo Singh, a resident of Kumhrar under the jurisdiction of Agamkuan police station in Patna, with four quintals of ganja (marijuana) on November 18, 2011.

BJP break-up jab at Dal

Patna: Former minister Nand Kishore Yadav on Tuesday said the state’s electorate have punished the JD(U) for its decision to break its alliance with the BJP. The BJP leader claimed that the JD(U) had parted ways with the party in the hope to get the minorities’ support, but were still rejected in the general election.

Patna: Bihar Industries Association on Tuesday organised an awareness seminar on “Impact of New Companies Act, 2013, on private limited companies”. Mamta Binani, a fellow member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, spoke on the act’s provisions.

Patna: A programme was organised in Patna on Tuesday to mark the birth anniversary of former President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed. Speaking at the event, Congress leader Ajay Kumar recalled Ahmed’s contributions to strengthening national unity. Ahmed held office from 1974-77.

Murder cuffs

B>l Buxar: Seven criminals, who gunned down a murder accused on the premises of the district sessions court, were arrested from the town on Tuesday. The murder accused was killed last Thursday when he was brought to the court for hearing.

Muzaffarpur: Criminals robbed 50-year-old Shanti Devi of Rs 3 lakh near Aamgola bridge after she withdrew the cash from the Jawaharlal Road branch of Punjab National Bank in Muzaffarpur on Tuesday afternoon. She was on a motorbike when the criminals, on another bike, fled with the cash-filled bag. An FIR has been lodged at Mithanpura police station. /B>

Four die in blaze

Patna: Four members of a family were burnt to death on Tuesday after a fire broke out at Surajchak village under the jurisdiction of Suryagarha police station in Lakhisarai district. The fire broke out in the hut of one Umesh Choudhary and later spread to other houses in the neighbourhood.
