Engineer drugged & robbed on train

Chhapra: Ashutosh Ranjan, an engineer working in Libya, was robbed of his valuables on the Sampark Kranti Express near Lucknow on Monday night. He was found unconscious on the train at Chhapra Junction on Tuesday.

Government Railway Police in-charge Sunil Kumar Dwivedi informed Abhishek Kumar, the brother of Ashutosh, of his condition. The victim has been admitted to a hospital.

Abhishek told the railway police that Ashutosh was offered a soft drink by a co-passenger, drinking which he fell unconscious.

He was carrying Rs 15 lakh and some ornaments that were reported missing.

Back home from Iraq

Gopalganj: Gopalganj MP Janak Ram on Tuesday issued a statement, claiming that 36 people from Bihar — stranded in Iraq — had reached Delhi and subsequently their respective homes because of Siwan MP Om Prakash Yadav and his efforts.

Power numbers

Patna: Bihar State Power (Holding) Company deputy general manager (public relations) H.R. Pandey on Tuesday said the company had issued two phone numbers — 0612-2504900 and 0612- 2504999 — on which consumers can lodge their complaints if burnt or defective transformers of 63KV capacity or more are not redressed fast. Consumers can lodge their complaints between 10am and 6pm. The power company has resolved to replace burnt and defective transformers within 24 hours and 72 hours in urban and rural areas of the state, respectively.

Brain fever talks

Gaya: Preventive measures and methods of treatment for acute encephalitis syndrome and Japanese encephalitis were discussed at a workshop organised in Bodhgaya on Tuesday. Since June 9 this year, 12 out of 23 children have died of suspected acute encephalitis syndrome at Anugrah Narayan Medical College and Hospital. Regional deputy director, health, Rajendra Prasad said Tuesday’s event was a sensitisation workshop in which state task force members for acute encephalitis syndrome — Ajoy Kishore Ravi, A.K. Thakur and S.K. Nigam — described the preventive measures and treatment methods. District magistrates of Gaya and Arwal, civil surgeons of all five districts under the Magadh division (Gaya, Jehanabad, Aurangabad, Nawada and Arwal), doctors, health managers and programme officers of the division took part in the workshop.

BJP induction

Patna: Former minister and JDU vice-president Sonadhari Singh Yadav on Tuesday joined the BJP, along with hundreds of his supporters, in the presence of state party president Mangal Pandey and senior leaders Sushil Kumar Modi and Nand Kishore Yadav. Sushil Modi, the former deputy chief minister, demanded the government to formulate a plan so that people belonging to SC/ST, backward caste get government tenders.

Birth anniversary

Patna: SN Sinha Memorial trust would organise a programme to mark the 98th birth anniversary of former chief minister SN Sinha on July 11. A note from the trust on Tuesday said several dignitaries, including Governor D.Y. Patil, would take part in the programme.

Arms arrest

Munger (PTI): Three persons were arrested from different places in Munger on Tuesday with a huge cache of arms and ammunition. Acting on a tip-off, police caught one Mohammad Neyaz and seized three automatic pistols and ammunition he was carrying on his bicycle to deliver to a client, additional superintendent of police Sanjay Kumar Singh said.
