Five teenagers drown in river
Madhubani (PTI): Five teenagers of a private boarding school drowned while they were bathing in Jivach river of Madhubani district.
The students were taking bath in Jivach river when they accidentally slipped in deep water and drowned, Town police station in-charge Kumar Kriti said. The bodies of Gaurav Singh (14), Shobha Jha (15), Bablu Jha (15), Abhishek Kumar Jha (14) and Ankit Kumar (14) have been fished out and sent for post-mortem.
The victims were the students of Indian Public School and used to reside in its hostel.
Man killed for protest
Khagaria (PTI): A 65-year-old man was killed by a group of people when he scolded them for consuming alcohol at Nayagaon village in Khagaria on Tuesday night. Makhan Mandal was beaten up by the group when he rebuked them for their drinking habit and he died on the spot. Residents blocked the Parbatta-Nayagaon road carrying the body with them and demanded compensation for the aggrieved family and arrest of the culprits.
Diarrhoea deaths
Muzaffarpur (PTI): Three children died and 36 others were taken ill because of diarrhoea in Dhanour Mushar area under Katra block of Muzaffarpur district. The disease broke out in the area a couple of days ago affecting 40 people who were rushed to the primary health centre. The children — Manchal Kumari (5), Bharti (3) and Dhiraj — died on Tuesday night.
Festive spirit
Chhapra: Saran district magistrate Kundan has constituted a team of officials to undertake an anti-encroachment drive in Chhapra ahead of the festive season. He has also directed the officials concerned to launch a drive for strict adherence to parking rules.
Bag robbery
Hajipur: Criminals snatched a bag containing important documents after opening fire at the manager and accountant of Syndicate Bank near Chandi Chowk at Hajipur in Vaishali on Wednesday. An FIR was lodged in this connection, but no arrests have been made yet.
Removal
Chhapra: Arjun Yadav, principal in-charge, Rampur Kadna Deoraha Baba Sridhar Das Degree College, has been removed from his post by the newly constituted ad hoc committee of the university on charges of defalcation of fund of the college.
IT raids
Gaya: Income tax officials on Wednesday conducted raids on three coaching centres in Gaya and seized documents, including admission registers and other papers. The raids were conducted as part of the strategy of the income tax department department to realise and assess tax dues of organisations that have made huge money in a short span of time.
New college
Munger: Governor D. Y. Patil will inaugurate Rehmani B.Ed College on the campus of Rehmani Foundation in Belan Bazar in the Munger headquarters on Thursday.
Graft charge
Gopalganj: District magistrate Krishna Mohan has ordered lodging of an FIR against headmasters of 58 primary schools for not utilising funds to the tune of Rs 60 crore.
