| JD(U) workers stop a train in support of the Bharat Bandh near Patna Sahib station on Thursday. The strike, called by the BJP and the Left parties, in protest against diesel price hike and FDI in multi-brand retail, crippled life across Bihar with train services suffering the most. East Central Railway sources said at least 100 trains were held up at various stations across five divisions. Train services were hit in all routes from Patna to New Delhi, Mumbai, Howrah and Bangalore. Patna wore a deserted look with commercial vehicles remaining off the road. Police stuck to their slogan —‘shoot them with camera and not with bullets’ — even as scores of protestors indulged in vandalism at several places in Patna and other districts. BJP leaders like Ravi Shankar Prasad and Dr CP Thakur, and JD(U) stalwarts like Shivanand Tiwari and Basishtha Narayan Singh were seen leading rallies of the respective party workers.
