
St Xavier’s College and St Xavier’s College of Management & Technology, Patna, organised an orientation day programme for its second- and third-year students returning back after a month-long summer break on Monday.
College campuses were abuzz with students who caught up with their batch-mates, and interacting with the professors.
The programme was organised in the newly refurbished Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Hall. The programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp. Vice-president of the colleges, Fr Joseph Thadavanal, SJ, welcomed the students. He exhorted them to make the best of all the opportunities available at the colleges to hone their knowledge and polish their soft skills. Principal of the Colleges, Fr (Dr) T. Nishaant, SJ, presented a brief review of the last academic year, 2017-18. He lauded the students for their achievements and motivated them to strive for excellence.
After this formal ceremony, students were segregated into their departments where they reaffirmed the values of Jesuit education — the 6Cs — Competence, Commitment, Conscience, Collaboration, Creativity, and Compassion. Ekta, a second-year student, said: “Returning to college after a month-long summer vacation is a great experience.”
Common room gift
The students of Magadh Mahila College on the first day of their college after a month-long summer vacation on Monday received gifts - a new common room, a leisure room and other facilities were inaugurated.
Patna University vice-chancellor Rash Bihari Prasad Singh, Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan state programme officer Shivesh Ranjan, college principal Shashi Sharma and large number of students and teachers were present.
VC Rash Bihari Prasad Singh said: “Magadh Mahila College is one of the best educational institutions of Patna University and we are always ready to help.” Rusa state programme officer Shivesh Ranjan said Rusa is willing to provide all necessary help and assistance to the institution. The college administration on the occasion placed the demand for construction of a 1,000-bed hostel and a big common room having an area of 15,000sqft.
Shivesh Ranjan promised the college on meeting both the demands. Meanwhile, the students were happy with college administration adding new facilities for students. Surbhi Priya, a student, said: “The new common room which was inaugurated on Monday has all the facilities such as television set, indoor games facilities such as carom, chess and others. Students can relax in the common rooms.”
Admission
The colleges of Patna University are finalising the process of declaring results of Patna University common entrance test.
Different colleges have declared the first and second list of students for admission to different streams in undergraduate courses.
The BN College on Friday declared the second merit list for different streams. In mathematics (science), the cut-off marks for general category students is 49-48 marks, while for backward classes II the cut-off marks is
47-46. Similarly in BA, the cut-off marks is 56-54 is for general category students while for SC candidates the cut-off is 42-21. The academic session is likely to commence from mid-July. The varsity has issued a directive banning ragging on campus.
PU proctor G.K. Pilai said: “Students found involved in ragging will have their admissions cancelled.” Anil Kumar, a second-year student from Patna Science College, said: “Such directive will check ragging on campus.”
