The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the state police on Wednesday discovered disproportionate assets worth over Rs 1.33 crore from senior deputy collector Abhiram Trivedi.

The 1999-batch Bihar Administrative Service officer is currently under suspension for dereliction of duty while holding the charge of superintendent of Hajipur divisional jail in Vaishali district. Sources said an EOU team searched Trivedi’s residential premises in Pathakpuri Bibiganj locality of Muzaffarpur after permission from a special vigilance court in Patna.

In the search, officials recovered Rs 46,000 in cash and documents related to purchase of several plots in Muzaffarpur in the name of his wife, Amrita Roy, and himself.

Trivedi owns a two-storied building worth Rs 20 lakh in Muzaffarpur. Additional director-general (headquarters) Ravinder Kumar said the eight-hour raid yielded immovable assets worth Rs 1.47 crore and movable assets worth Rs 34.83 lakh. Trivedi had recently purchased 15 plots measuring 364.25 decimal for Rs 1.19 crore in the name of his wife and another 20 decimal for Rs 8.80 lakh in the name of his father, Ram Balak Trivedi.

Kumar claimed the registered land deeds were of less value than market rate, hinting at tax evasion. “A case under sections 13(2) read with section 13 (1)(E) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 has been registered with the EOU police station,” Kumar said. Trivedi’s bank accounts were frozen. He had around Rs 14 lakh in 11 bank accounts and Rs 6.40 lakh in insurance policies. Gold ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh were seized. The team found a double-barrel gun and revolver in his name and an Alto car and a motor cycle.
