Students from 11 city-based schools showcased their artistic creativity on the walls of Patna Women’s College on Monday in a closely fought battle for the inter-school wall magazine.

The education department of Patna Women’s College had organised the competition with the theme “Science and Society”. St Xavier’s High School, Carmel High School, International School, Miller High School and Hartman Girls’ High School were some of the institutions which took part.

The competitive spirit was palpable. So enthusiastic was Anshu Prabhat, a Class IX student of St Xavier’s High School, that he was not at all upset when he accidentally spilt gum on his shirt during the competition. “Right now, the only thing on my mind is to win this competition,” he said.

Students came well-equipped with scissors, colourful chart paper, glitter, ribbons and other stuff to decorate their wall magazines. In spite of being short of art material, students of Miller High School showed an amazing fighting spirit.

“Our teachers had not briefed us about the materials required in the competition. So, we didn’t bring any material. But we have not lost our spirit. We will fight and show the best of our creativity with limited resources,” said Sachin Mishra, a Class IX student of Miller High School.

Participants used innovative implements to design their wall magazines.

Students of Notre Dame Academy used scrub pads used to clean utensils instead of brush to paint the wall. “Had I opted for the paintbrush, it would have taken a lot of time to paint the big board provided to us,” said Sukriti Catherine Paul of Notre Dame Academy.

Students of St Xavier’s High School used ice cream sticks for their work of art.

“These contests teach students about teamwork and give students a chance to interact with those of other schools,” said Doris D’Souza, the principal of Patna Women’s College.

In the English category, the St Xavier’s team clinched the first position followed by St Paul’s High School and Army School, Danapur Cantonment. In the Hindi category, Hartman Girls’ High School stood first, while Miller High School and Govt Girls’ High School, Shastri Nagar, secured the second and third positions respectively.
