Muzaffarpur, Feb. 24: Four criminals were arrested from Kalvari Ghat under Kanti police station for allegedly killing former mukhiya of Pakhnaha village Mithlesh Kumar Singh and his son on Sunday night.

Deputy superintendent of police (east) Shibli Nomani today said Bhujangi Sahni and three of his accomplices, who allegedly looted Singh’s house and later killed him and his son Vivek Kumar, were arrested last night.

A police team was constituted to trap Sahni and three members of his gang — Lal Babu, Achchay Lal Sahni and Sukh Nandan Sahni — from their hiding place in Kalvari Ghat.

Nomani told The Telegraph: “Ornaments and valuables looted from the house of Singh were recovered from the robbers.”

The police also recovered two pistols, a gun, crude materials used for making bombs and 10 cartridges.

The DSP said the four criminals were being interrogated to ascertain whether they have links with the Maoists or not. The police suspect that rebels could also be responsible for Singh’s and Vivek’s murder as they had posed a threat to them in the Panapur and Minapur areas.

Criminals had raided Pakhnaha village on Sunday night and had killed the former mukhiya and his son when they had resisted the armed men.
