Two countrymade pistols and a couple of live cartridges were recovered during a raid at the district jail early on Friday morning.

Bettiah sadar sub-divisional magistrate Shri Prakash led the raid. Two inmates, Gorakh Thakur and Shambhu Singh, were found possessing firearms and were arrested. The firearms and the cartridges were thrown out of ward number 4 during the search operation but were later recovered from a bush in the prison backyard.

West Champaran superintendent of police S.K. Nayak said: “An inquiry has been initiated in the matter.”
