Bhagalpur/Patna: The hearing into the bail petition of Arjit Shashwat, son of Union minister of state and BJP leader Ashwini Kumar Choubey, got delayed in the court of additional district and sessions judge (ADJ) - IV, Kumud Ranjan Singh, also the in-charge district and sessions judge of Bhagalpur, as the prosecution failed to produce the case diary.

Arjit is currently under 14-day judicial custody on charges of stoking social strife in Bhagalpur on March 17. He absconded for over 10 days after an FIR was lodged against him as the main accused. He was finally arrested from Patna on the intervening night of March 31 and April 1. Arjit's lawyer Biresh Mishra said the hearing for regular bail was scheduled to commence in the court of ADJ - IV, but the case diary was not available. "The court sought the case diary and fixed April 9 as next date of hearing," Biresh said.

The Bhagalpur police lodged a fresh FIR on a co-accused of Arjit on charges of taking a selfie with some BJP workers while being produced in the court on April 6. "Pranav Das, an accused, was found busy taking selfies with some BJP workers while being produced in the court of additional chief judicial magistrate (ACJM) - I. It was an illegal act for one in judicial custody," Bhagalpur SSP Manoj Kumar said.

The SSP has also suspended two assistant sub-inspectors - Suresh Oraon and Vinay Kumar - who were on duty in the court to guard undertrials while being produced in the courts. The suspension was for their failure to stop Pranav from taking selfies.
