Patna: The enthralling, heart-warming love story of Laila-Majnu, which has been passed on across generations and geographical barriers, and has also set the celluloid on fire or coins of Babur issued when he lorded over Kabul in Afghanistan for a decade or several of them issued by his grandson Akbar.

We are not talking about any museum but about Patna University, which has thrown open its treasure trove to the public during its ongoing centenary year celebrations.

Governor Satya Pal Malik, who is also the chancellor of state universities, inaugurated an exhibition of rare manuscripts and antiquities with the university at its Wheeler Senate Hall in Patna.

Patna University vice-chancellor Rash Bihari Singh was also present on the occasion.

Malik also released a book, History of Patna University (1917-2017), written by Jayashri Mishra, Surendra Kumar and Jaydev Mishra, as well as, a special cover issued by the India Post to mark the centenary of a university, which was known as the Oxford of the East till the 1960s.

The other rare medieval objects on display are Jahangirnama (the draft of the memoirs of Mughal ruler Jahangir, 1569-1627), Vrihat Jatak (16th century AD), Kavya Kamdhenu by Mop Dev (17th century AD) and Shukla Yajurveda (18th century AD).

The collection also touches the modern times with epistles of first President Dr Rajendra Prasad and also correspondences related to the university. The exhibition will remain open till December 15.
