Patna: Removing encroachment from railway tracks between R-Block and Digha is going on at a fast pace with no protest from squatters, which is unusual during such drives.

The drive continued on the fourth day as well from Rajiv Nagar to Digha, the tail end of the railway tracks, in the presence of Patna district magistrate Kumar Ravi, who is monitoring the drive.

So far, 514 huts, cowsheds and other illegal structures, have been demolished with the help of earthmovers and many people whose concrete houses were found encroaching the land on the railway tracks were served notices.

The district magistrate ordered to measure every house and then send the notices to whoever encroached the land and only then action would be taken.

Police, including women constables, were deployed in large numbers during the drive and regular announcements were made by the district administration officials.

"The drive will continue till we remove all encroachments from the tracks as a four-lane road has been proposed at the site. Clearing the encroachment from the tracks looked tough initially, but so far it went smoothly without much hurdle," Ravi said.

Fearing to lose important things during the razzing, many residents removed the encroachment on their own.

When the Patna district magistrate reached Digha, an illegal country liquor brewing factory was discovered. Excise department officials were called to the site and they seized the products found at the site. More than 1,000 containers of 15 litres each were seized. The containers were hidden underground in an area spread over an acre and all were unearthed with the help of five bachoe-loader machines.

Kumar Ravi issued an order to inspect all the houses near the area and take legal action under the Bihar Prohibition Excise Act, 2016, if anyone was found brewing liquor. Excise department officials booked a few people after samples of country liquors matched spirits found at a few houses.

To ensure squatters don't return, the administration has decided to barricade the area with barbed wires and pillars.

Kumar Ravi issued an order that the way the work of removing the encroachment is on, the debris must he cleared from the spot in the same speed so that work of removing the railway tracks could start soon after the drive is over by Monday.

The four-lane road proposed between R-Block and Digha will pass through Hartali Mor, Punaichak, Shivpuri, Mahesh Nagar, New Patliputra Colony, Rajiv Nagar and Patliputra industrial area.

A 6.9km road will be constructed together with a service lane of 5.5km. The Bihar State Road Development Corporation Ltd (BSRDCL) is the nodal agency for the project.
