Speaker Vijay Kumar Choudhary has urged women legislators from the state to participate in the National Women's Parliament scheduled in Amrawati, Andhra Pradesh, from February 10 to 12.

The Andhra Pradesh Assembly and MIT School of Government, Pune, are jointly organising the event.

"The meet is an opportunity for all women legislators to join the national agenda to bring about social, cultural and political change in the status of women," the Speaker told women MLAs on Wednesday. Invitations have been sent to 401 women legislators and 93 women MPs from across India.

President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan are expected to attend the event.

Women legislators and MPs apart, women achievers from diverse fields will also attend the programme.

The three-day event will have six sessions, including one on socio-political challenges to ensuring women's empowerment.

In a house of 243, Bihar has 28 women legislators, 23 from the ruling Grand Alliance and five others from the Opposition BJP. The previous Assembly had greater representation of women, with 34 women MLAs.
