JDU and BJP leaders on Wednesday flung sharp words at the RJD over the attack on deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi's motorcade on Tuesday.
Sushil accused RJD workers for the attack, and linked it to the probe by central agencies against the party's first family. "Instead of giving point-wise explanation on benaami property, they have become frustrated and are attacking me," the deputy chief minister said. "I am not afraid of such incidents. I will continue to expose Lalu."
He said the RJD chief's sons were holding three important portfolios in the cabinet without any qualification. He also said that when the people of Seemanchal are being forced to stay under plastic sheets due to being displaced by the flood, the RJD leaders are busy with their August 27 rally instead of helping the flood-hit people.
Senior BJP leader and road construction department minister Nand Kishore Yadav called that attack on Modi a sign of frustration and an attack on democracy. BJP state unit president Nityanand Rai termed the incident unfortunate and a sign of cowardice.
Lalu said action would be taken in case any RJD worker was found to be involved.
"The stone pelting incident is a failure of district administration, but I firmly believe that the incident was pre-planned to divert attention from the Srijan scam in Bhagalpur," the RJD chief said at his residence before leaving for Ranchi where he will appear before the CBI court in fodder scam cases.
Asked about allegations that RJD supporters had attacked the deputy chief minister, Lalu said: "I too condemn the incident and if RJD workers or supporters are found to be involved, they would be shown the door."
Lalu's younger son and leader of Opposition in the Assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav echoed his father. "To cover up Bihar's biggest scam, the Srijan fund-transfer scandal, the government is playing a game to divert the attention of the people," Tejashwi said. "Every day they are coming up with new ideas to cover up the scam but I must say, it is the public, boss; they know everything."
JDU MLC and chief spokesperson Sanjay Singh also targeted the RJD chief. "Lalu Prasad should not think that it is the '90s when such incidents were very common. Today the state is ruled by Nitishji and there is no place for such incidents in Bihar. The veins of JDU and BJP workers are not filled with water; if required we know how to teach them a lesson," Singh said.
Another JDU MLC and spokesperson Neeraj Kumar attacked Lalu for his Srijan-diversion remark, and said a convicted person does not have any moral ground to speak on any scam.
RJD MLA from Maner Bhai Birendra said the attack was an expression of anger the people of Bihar due to the Srijan scam. "The RJD does not believe in violence but if anyone will challenge us, we will not wait a second to break their ribs," he added.
