Bettiah, July 13: Good times for criminals dealing in smuggling of narcotics and fake Indian currency in the bordering district could be over soon.
In a bid to tighten the noose around the criminals and anti-national elements, Bettiah superintendent of police (SP) Nishant Kumar Tewari has asked the cops to “completely curb” smuggling of narcotics and fake Indian currency at the bordering areas of India and Nepal in the district. The SP issued the directive at a meeting with police officers on July 9 and sought more cooperation from the Sashastra Seema Bal commandant A.K. Thakur, who was present at the meet.
Tewari also warned the station house officers (SHOs) of stern action if any slackness of duty is reported against them. The SP particularly asked the SHOs of Inarwa, Bhangaha, Mainatand, Balthar, Purushottampur, Kangali and Sikta to conduct more patrols along the border. He asked them to spare none found guilty of such offences and take stringent action against them.
The SP expressed his resentment over the 202 criminal cases pending owing to lack of evidence. He also directed the SHOs to take action against doctors who do not carry out their responsibilities.
Tewari also had words of appreciation for the policemen. “The performance of the police have brought laurels to Bettiah police, which now ranks first in the zone and fourth in the state in the number of disposal of cases,” Tewari told The Telegraph over phone this morning.
He pointed out that the district police had disposed of 675 cases till June this year.
The SP added: “The state government has come up with a number of welfare schemes, which the police have carried out. The district police’s job has been laudable. We have distributed more than 2,000 school bags under various education schemes of the state government.”
Tewari also stressed the need of community policing in the districts. “This is a very useful tool and it helps the civil society,” The Bettiah SP added.
