Patna, Oct. 10: Three FIRs have been lodged in connection with Sunday’s mob violence at Bijrauli Noonfar village under Mahua sub-division in Vaishali district, which left an 18-year-old girl dead and five others seriously injured.

The first FIR has been lodged by Harisudan, alias Arisudan Choudhary, who was brutally assaulted by alleged henchmen of Harendra Prasad Singh for lending support to his younger brother Suresh Singh in a property dispute case.

The second FIR deals with murderous attack on the police when the latter tried to prevent an unruly mob from taking law in their hands and causing hindrance in discharge of official duty.

Around 500 residents of the village have been made accused in the case lodged by Ravindra Kumar, a sub-inspector of police. The police officer alleged that the mob attacked the police with sticks and pelted stones, causing injuries to a few members of the team.

The third FIR pertains to the case of the mob torching Harendra Singh’s house and burning his daughter Gunjan Kumari, an Intermediate student, to death. Five persons have been made accused in the case lodged by Harendra, who too was beaten up by the mob.

Police said Choudhary has been referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital. Choudhary had received multiple injuries in the attack by Harendra’s supporters.

The district magistrate and the superintendent of police (SP) held a meeting with police and administrative officials and issued necessary directives to restore normality in the village.

Vaishali superintendent of police Upendra Kumar Sinha said the incident was fallout of a dispute over 9.2 acres of land in the village. “The two brothers were fighting for the ownership of the land for a couple of years,” he said.

Deputy inspector-general of police (Tirhut range) Bachchu Singh Meena told The Telegraph over phone that he had sought a detailed report from the SP on the incident within three days.

“I have asked the SP to inquire into the legal and preventive action taken by the station house officer of the police station concerned and the deputy superintendent of police with regard to the complaints lodged by the two brothers,” the DIG added.

He has also directed the SP to probe as to why the people were infuriated and took law in their hands. “There must have been some sort of anger against police inaction, which prompted villagers to set the houses on fire and burn a young girl alive,” he added.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the two brothers had lodged complaints with Tisiauta police station, accusing one another with murderous attack. “It seems that the police did not take up the matter seriously,” Meena said, adding that stern action would be taken against the erring cops. While the male members have fled their houses and taken shelter elsewhere fearing police action, women and the elderly are staying in the village.

Mahua sub-divisional police officer Sudama Prasad said no arrest has been made in all three cases. “Our first priority is to restore peace and then action will be taken against the accused,” he said.
