At least 14 people have been killed in a landslide at a stone quarry in West Java, Indonesia, the governor of the province, Dedi Mulyadi, said on Saturday. Another 11 people were missing and were believed to be dead, he said.
The landslide occurred about 10 am on Friday near the city of Cirebon, which is about 217 km east of Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital. Among those killed were quarry workers, street vendors and drivers, Mulyadi said during a visit to the disaster site on Saturday.
A news network, Kompas TV, broadcast images of the aftermath, showing excavators digging through the rubble as officials searched for survivors at the base of a steep hill.
The search for additional victims was halted at about 5 pm on Friday because of darkness and the risk of more landslides.
