Amanya Sahney can't wait for the weekend to arrive. The Class V student of La Martiniere for Girls is looking forward to watching Cinderella and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs come alive on stage.

The Broadway-style musicals, hosted by Friendlytoyz and Nappytimes, partnered by t2 and supported by FACES, will be staged at Kala Mandir on November 14 and 15.

"I remember watching the Lion King musical in London and it was a fascinating one. Now, I will get to see something similar in my hometown," said Amanya, who will go for the show with mom Amrita and sister Naisha.

The event, the first of its kind in Calcutta, has won hearts in other metros. Curators Vishal Asrani and Jiji Subi of Vishaal Asrani Institute of Performing Arts (VAIPA) expect a full house here as well. "The people of Calcutta are lovers of art and literature. We are trying our best to offer a larger-than-life experience to the kids here, with intricately designed sets, lively music and engaging performances," said Asrani.

Neha Bhatnagar, the chief fun officer of FriendlyToyz, is overwhelmed by the response. "There are not too many musical plays for kids happening in the city. We have watched Broadway shows for kids and wanted to offer a similar experience for the children here. When we learnt about VAIPA, we knew we have to bring them here. Over 75 per cent tickets were sold out in the first week."

A meet-and-greet session with the production team and a photo shoot have been arranged for a select few after the show, the details of which are available on their Facebook page. The first show, Cinderella, has been scheduled for November 14, Saturday, at 6pm.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will be staged the following day at 11am. The tickets, priced Rs 750 and Rs 1,000, are available on bookmyshow.com.
