Two storm water drainage pumping stations are now operational on the banks of the Eastern Drainage Canal. With this development, Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authory (NDITA) is confident of Sector V being spared water-logging woes that office-goers and students suffer every monsoon.

The pumping stations have been set up to pump out water from the streets of Sector V and drain it out in the canal.

While one of the stations has come up opposite the Wipro building the other station is opposite the Indian Army camp of the Bihar Warriors regiment. According to NDITA sources, both stations are equipped with multiple 25 horsepower pumps that will aid in rapid clearing of water from the streets.

Several places in Sector V, like College More, get waterlogged after the slightest spells of rain.

NDITA chairman Debashis Sen, said they were confident that this year would be different for the township. “We want to ensure that there is no water-logging this year,” he said.

The stations were inaugurated by urban development minister Firhad Hakim at a programme near Nicco Park last week.
