Tagore has expressed his fondness and admiration for the two great Indian epics through his celebrated verse-plays, Kalmrigaya, Chitrangada and Karna Kunti Sambad. Ashokerenu?s presentation of Valmiki?s Ramayana through dance-drama, based on Rabindrasangeet, is an innovative attempt to bring together the poetic genius of Valmiki and Tagore to forge a unique performance. Adorned with 40 Tagore songs, sung to the accompaniment of dances, all performed by the artistes of Ashokerenu, Ramayana nevertheless remains true to the original story. Concept and choreography: Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta. Narration: Arjun Chakraborty. This is followed by the launch of Ramayana?s cassettes/CDs, a compilation of Tagore songs that features in the dance-drama, produced by Bhavna Records and Cassettes.
