Fliers in the arrival lounge of Calcutta airport’s integrated terminal during its second trial run on Friday. The 467 passengers who were on four flights that landed in the city between 10.10am and 1.20pm exited the airport through the terminal. A Jet Airways flight from Mumbai, an Air India flight from Port Blair and SpiceJet and Indigo flights from Bangalore were part of the trial. “The trial went off well. We are planning to hold the third trial run, which will focus on the departure areas, in the first week of September,” said airport director B.P. Sharma. The passengers were brought to the terminal in airline coaches as the aerobridges are yet to be installed. “My first impression of the new terminal is very good but the important thing is whether it would be maintained like the other airports,” said Satyabrata Guha, a senior official of the Geological Survey of India, Bangalore, who came to Calcutta on a SpiceJet flight. “The old terminal is a nightmare where we don’t get trolleys and the toilets can’t be used. The new facility is a pleasant surprise,” said Sitangshu Bhattacharya, who works at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. (Left) A glass elevator, one of the facilities at the new terminal.
