The West Bengal Special Marriage Rules and the West Bengal Hindu Marriage Rules have been amended to speed up the process of marriage registration and check girl trafficking, law minister Rabilal Moitra said on Monday. The amended rules have been in effect since August 2.
The 14-day notice period for marriage registration under the Hindu Marriage Rules has been shortened to seven days.
The amended rules state that both the boy and the girl have to submit seven copies of their photographs along with the notice for marriage registration. The notice will be displayed in the office of the registrar and a copy of it will be preserved at Writers’ Buildings.
Power-cut alert: Power supply to Duffer Street, Wallace Road, Agrassain Street, Kumar Para, Gaushala, Shantinagar, Chakpara Road, Ganpath Rai Khemka Lane, Belur Road, Kunden Bye Lane, Gopal Ghosh Lane and Salkia in Howrah will be disrupted on a rotational basis between 9am and 2pm on Tuesday because of maintenance.
Held: Six men were arrested in different parts of the city on Monday in connection with the abduction of three scrap iron traders from Maniktala a week ago. Police said the families of the three traders had to pay a ransom of Rs 3 lakh to secure their release. Around Rs 1.75 lakh of the amount was recovered from the accused.
Fatal fall: Sanjay Aich, a 28-year-old Group D employee of the Calcutta Municipal Corporation, died after falling from the fourth-floor balcony of his Madanmohan Burman Street house on Monday.
Writers’ fire: A small fire broke out in the corridor adjoining the land and land revenue department at Writers’ Buildings on Monday. Employees doused the blaze before tenders could reach. Officials said the fire had spread from a meter box.
Airport restriction: Visitor entry has been banned at the city airport since August 6 for security reasons in the run up to Independence Day. The date when the restrictions will be lifted will not be declared beforehand.
