Headmaster suspended

Anisur Rahman, the headmaster of Mitra Institution (Main), accused of misappropriating funds and illegally promoting students, has been suspended by the school managing committee.

“According to the rules of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, we are initiating an inquiry into the charges against Anisur Rahman. We will submit a chargesheet within 90 days,” said Anup Sarkar, the secretary of the managing committee of the Surya Sen Street school.

The decision to suspend Rahman was taken after a meeting between the managing committee and representatives of guardians and teachers on April 29. The headmaster was invited to the meeting but he did not attend.

Guardians had gheraoed Rahman on April 20, demanding his resignation. They claimed Rahman, the headmaster since 2004, had defalcated central funds and promoted students against a bribe.
