Jadavpur: Hasin Jahan said on Sunday she would consider reconciling with her husband, cricketer Mohammed Shami, if he was "truly" sorry for the actions she had accused him of and was intent on saving their marriage.

Hasin has lodged a complaint against Shami and his family alleging rape, attempt to murder, poisoning and mental and physical torture. On Saturday, she had got her statement about the allegations recorded at Lalbazar.

Addressing reporters on Sunday at their home in Katju Nagar, off Prince Anwar Shah Road, Hasin said she was standing by the accusations she had made against her husband, which include his having extra-marital affairs.

"If Shami truly wants to make up, if I feel he is truly apologetic for his actions, I will think about a reconciliation... for the sake of our daughter. But I want to reiterate that I am standing firm by the allegations that I have made against him," Hasin said.

She said Shami had not tried to contact him. "I read somewhere that Shami had said I was not answering his calls. That is not true. He did not call me over the past few days," she said.

Hasin also urged Shami to refrain from making "baseless statements". She referred to his statement that she had been making the allegations against him at someone's insistence. "He should name the person," she said.

Hasin's lawyer Jakir Hossain, who was present at the news conference, said he had met some of Shami's relatives on Saturday. "I met three of his uncles and another relative who have come from Uttar Pradesh. Their approach is very positive. They have made it clear that they just want the marriage to be saved," said Hossain.

"My client is not averse to the idea of a reconciliation. But she is under a lot of stress and needs some time to think before coming to a final decision on how to proceed."
