Metro stations will now have food stores serving momos and pizzas.
Wow Momo and Domino's Pizza will be among the 19 food stores at 16 stations. A soft drink company will open an outlet, too.
"We have opened our first kiosk at Kavi Nazrul station about a week ago and are coming up with 13 more across nine stations, including Tollygunge, Rabindra Sarovar, Kalighat, Esplanade and Shyambazar," Sagar Daryani, co-founder of Wow Momo Foods Private Limited said.
The chain will serve a limited menu across their steamed, fried and pan-fried platters.
The Wow Momo outlets in Tollygunge and Kalighat will be ready by next week. The rest will be operational by the first week of May. "Of the 14 kiosks, three will be in Tollygunge," Daryani said.
Domino's Pizza is set to open three kiosks in the Metro stations, each spread across 50-110sq ft. Two of the kiosks will open in three months.
"We'll have a set menu offering two vegetarian and non-vegetarian varieties," an official of Domino's Pizza said.
The pizzas will be brought in from the nearest outlet of the company. "We are adopting the 'pick and move' concept so that it becomes convenient for commuters, especially students and office-goers," he said.
"Metro stations here do not have any food kiosks, so it would be convenient for the commuters to have food on the go," said Daryani.
Passengers, however, won't be allowed to take food to the platforms to prevent littering.
