Calcutta: A disc jockey who performs in a Park Street nightclub has been arrested along with two drug mules for alleged possession of and trading in Malana charas, a high-quality hash originating in Himachal Pradesh and popular in party hotspots.
Sources in the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), which made the arrests, said Nikhil Lakhwani a.k.a DJ Nikhil was picked up on the basis of information provided by one of the other two.
The arrest trail had started with the seizure of a 2kg consignment of Malana charas that arrived in Calcutta on the Rajdhani Express this Sunday.
The hash, valued at a little over Rs 15 lakh in the drug market, was to be allegedly distributed among customers in several nightclubs before Christmas.
"We arrested Robert Dixon and Henry Lawrence Manna from outside Sealdah station on Sunday night when the consignment was changing hands. Henry was the carrier who had brought the consignment from Manali. Robert was waiting outside the station to receive it. On interrogating Robert, we got the name DJ Nikhil and arrested him," said Dilip Srivastava, director of the NCB, Calcutta zone.
Sources in the narcotics bureau said DJ Nikhil had revealed the names of nightclubs where the seized consignment was to be delivered.
A raid on Robert's Ballygunge Place house yielded another 450gm of charas. He had been arrested by city police for a drug offence a few years ago.
An LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide) blotting paper was allegedly found on DJ Nikhil when he was arrested. Nikhil is a resident of Karnani Mansion on Park Street. The third accused, Henry, lives in a house along AJC Bose Road.
Malana is a small village in Himachal that features on the cannabis map as the home of the infamous Malana Cream.
