Bengal on Monday breached the 1,000-mark in both the number of cured Covid-19 patients and tests per million people, which sources said was indicative of the overall improvement in the management of the disease.

With 7,614 tests in the past 24 hours, Bengal’s total tests rose to 93,570, nearly twice the figure of 47,615 recorded on May 11. The tests per million rose to 1,040, compared to 529 a week ago.

Bengal on Monday — in 24 hours, till 9am — reported the releases of 47 Covid-19 patients following cure. The total number of recovered patients in the state is now 1,006.

The recovery rate has risen to 35.61 per cent from 24.19 on May 11.

“Over 1,000 cured cases, out of 2,825 total Covid-19 cases, is a formidable stat. The number of cured patients has more than doubled in just a week,” said a minister.

With the considerable rise in the number of tests, the positive confirmation rate — the percentage of people found infected among those tested — has improved in seven days from 4.33 to 3.02 per cent. A decreasing positive confirmation rate is indicative of lower levels of Covid-19 spread.

The state on Monday reported six more deaths — five of them from Calcutta — directly from the pathogen, taking the total toll to 172, up from 118 a week ago. There were 148 new confirmed cases, taking the total active cases to 1,575.
