Bengal logs 4,969 more Covid-19 infections, 34 deaths

The recovery rate, for the 10th consecutive day, also improved to reach 95.56 per cent, from 94.91 on Tuesday

Bengal on Wednesday reported 4,969 Covid-19 cases, including 654 from Calcutta.

In 24 hours till 9am on Wednesday, the state also logged 17,734 recoveries and 34 deaths, resulting in a drop in the total of active cases by 12,799 to 67,369.

This was the 10th consecutive day of such a drop in the third wave. Before January 17, the last drop in the total of active cases had been registered on December 27 last year.

Eleven of the state’s 23 districts reported zero deaths on Wednesday. Calcutta logged six.

The positive confirmation rate was 7.32 per cent. On January 10, the positive confirmation rate had reached an all-time high of 37.32. In the fortnight since, it has improved by over 80 per cent.

The recovery rate, for the 10th consecutive day, also improved to reach 95.56 per cent, from 94.91 on Tuesday. The national rate is 93.23. Between December 29 and January 16, it had dropped by nearly eight percentage points before recovering by five percentage points in these 10 days.
