Swiss watchmaker Breitling, best known for its toolwatches, is on an expansion drive in India to cash in on the increasing buying power of a section of consumers. To that effect it has opened two Breitling Boutiques in the last two months — at Racecourse in Coimbatore and Churchgate in Mumbai — bringing their number in the country to seven.

This follows two years of quick growth in India. The company’s spokespersons have told media that it grew at 16.50 per cent in 2023 and a stonking 40 per cent in 2024. In 2025, too, sales have been growing at ‘double digits’ and faster than the overall export growth of Swiss watches to India, they have added. Breitling wants to take the number of Breitling Boutiques to ten and the total number of sales points, including multibrand outlets and others, to 40.

The watchmaker has a unique aesthetic for its boutiques that it calls the industrial-loft concept. It is intended to bring to life Breitling’s modern-retro design values through vintage decor and artwork with contemporary design elements. Elements in the decor include a yellow grid panel stamped with a Breitling ‘B’ behind a Breitling Watch Bar. Also part of the Mumbai boutique are wall-mounted propellers and surfboards, a Triumph motorcycle as well as artifacts to guide visitors to Breitling’s Air, Land and Sea watch categories.

The importance of the Indian market is also evident from the fact that Breitling CEO Georges Kern was present to open the Mumbai boutique, which is one among nearly 300 globally. In recent times, Breitling has introduced timepieces like the Lady Premier, 2025 Ironman Endurance Pro, Superocean Heritage, and Top Time Racing, among others, in India.
