On February 4, the Playboy Club at Hyatt Regency, Kolkata, was buzzing for all the right reasons. Director-producer Agnidev Chatterjee celebrated his birthday while also marking an impressive 39 years in the Bengali entertainment industry. Agnidev has long been one of those names that instantly sparks recognition in the Bengali film and television world. Not because he’s stuck to one lane, but because he’s never been afraid to switch lanes entirely. His filmography is proof that he likes his storytelling like Calcutta likes its food, with range.
From Mrs Sen, 3 Kanya, to Charuulata 2011, his work has always carried a certain boldness, whether it’s in the themes he chooses or the way he frames a story.
The party wasn’t the kind where people quietly sip drinks and leave early. The guest list read like a mini reunion of the Bengali entertainment industry, with friends, colleagues, and well-wishers showing up for the man himself. Rituparna Sengupta, Rajesh Sharma, Anjana Basu, Koneenica Banerjee, Srijit Mukherji, and many others filled the space with laughter, hugs, conversations, and the kind of warmth that only comes when people have shared years of work and memories together.

There was glamour, and it felt like a celebration where people genuinely wanted to be there. The kind of evening where someone is always waving at someone across the room, and every corner has its own little conversation happening.
The celebration came with an extra sparkle, the first look and poster launch of his upcoming film Chor, starring Jeetu Kamal and Devlina Kumar who were also in attendance. “It’s been a wonderful journey and such a long one. So much television, so much cinema in Bengal, I can only say thank you.” Speaking about what lies ahead, Agnidev shared that the last few years had been personally challenging. “I wasn’t well. But now I think I’m back and I’m doing films that I want to make from the core of my heart.”
He also spoke with excitement about the poster launch of his upcoming film, a story he has carried with him for years. “This is a film I’ve had in my mind for the last five or six years. Now it’s finally happening, and I’m very, very happy. I believe in this film, and I want to say something through it.” Agnidev Chatterjee celebrated his birthday, 39 years of legacy, with a room full of love and a new film.
