A man was arrested following a clash between supporters of the CPM and Trinamul Congress in Howrah’s Bally on Sunday.
A bus and a police patrol van were damaged in the clash.
According to police, the brawl started after some CPM supporters allegedly threw stones at a group of Trinamul workers who were on their way to a rally near the Bally canal around 4pm.
The local CPM leaders alleged that Trinamul supporters had attacked six of their party offices and the house of the chairman of Bally Municipal Corporation.
Personnel of the Hooghly district combat force were deployed to tackle the situation.
Trinamul supporters gheraoed the police station at night demanding arrest of the CPM accused.
