Wissenaire 2011 kicks off on IIT campus

Bhubaneswar, March 3: The first edition of the IIT Bhubaneswar fest, Wissenaire’11, kicked off in the capital among much pomp and fanfare. Young techies were seen gearing up for their maiden techno management fest, the aim of which is to provide the student community with a place to mingle and collaborate in order to conceive and execute ideas, plans and presentations.

The fest is expected to witness a crowd of at least 1,500 per day. Students from out of station are also participating in this event, the organisers informed. “The stage is all set. We are leaving no stone unturned to bring all technical and managerial enthusiasts under one canopy,” said student Sijit Bharati. The first day of the tech fest will comprise of Colloquia, a paper presentation event where the participants will present their understanding of the advancements in fields of science and technology.

A series of papers on interesting civil engineering topics such as green buildings, geotech engineering, concrete mixes and properties, high strength steel, solid waste management and water and waste engineering, will be presented.

Similarly, for participants from the electrical streams, there will be papers on embedded systems, control systems, electronics and communications, power systems, power electronic drives, computer architecture and operating systems.

Participants will also present papers under the mechanical stream on topics such as applied thermo fluids, computational fluid dynamics, nanotechnology, among others.

There will be the Grand Arcanum, a series of electrical, mechanical and civil design events, Statasys’ IDP, Ingenium, which will include B-Plan competitions. There will also be case studies, youth parliament, and a series of on-spot events to keep the audience involved, the organisers informed.

On its second day, the fest will witness Quizzaires for technical and management buffs, robotics events, maths Olympiad and Codec. Wissenaire 2011 will also have guest lectures such as former SAIL chairman S.K. Roongta, who will deliver a talk on the topic “need for young entrepreneurs in public sector enterprises”. An exhibition titled “Unguided weapon exhibition” by the defence research and development organisation, will also be on display. Workshops by experts from reputed firms such as Microsoft, Dell and National Instruments will be among the other attractions of the event.
