Man ‘murders’ wife in Titabor

According to their eight-year-old son, the woman was beaten up 'mercilessly' by her husband

A woman was beaten to death by her husband at Titabor in Jorhat district on Tuesday night following a quarrel that turned violent.

A police officer said based on allegations by neighbours and family members of the victim, identified as Runa Bhumij, it was found that she was murdered on Tuesday night.

The accused has been identified as Jiten Bhumij.

According to their eight-year-old son, Runa was beaten up “mercilessly” by Jiten.

The child told the police that during the quarrel, his father started hitting his mother with a bamboo. She was severely injured and died.

Jiten fled the spot early on Wednesday morning. When the neighbours found out about the incident, they informed the woman’s family.

The police have initiated an investigation. A hunt to apprehend Jiten is on.
