Gold rush for Imphal West boxers

Imphal, June 30: Imphal West boxers clinched eight gold medals in the men’s sub-junior category of the State-Level Boxing Championship at the boxing ring, Khuman Lampak sports complex today.

Sh. Rebaldo won the first gold medal in the sub-junior D-42kg bout defeating Th. Lakhmani Singh of Imphal East.

Other gold medal winners include M. Dayananda Meieti in the C-44kg, Kh. Yaiphaba in the B-50kg, H. Noingthon Meitei in the B-57kg, Johnson Achom in the A-63kg, A. Malemngaanba of A-50kg, H. Yaiphabain A-48kg, Md Etash Khan in B-48kg and A. Temba Meitei in B-42kg.

In the women’s sub-junior A-57kg semi-final bout, L. Holena Devi, representing Imphal West, beat Ruijom Hena Aimol of Thoubal to storm into the final.

In the women’s senior semi-final bout, Kh. Ranjita Devi of Imphal West defeated Kh. Puspa Devi of Thoubal in the 54kg category. In another semi-final bout, M. Kareak Thailu of Imphal West beat N. Sanajaobi Chanu of Bishnupur to move into the final of the 64kg bout. The sub-junior men’s semi-final match saw Sh. Victor of Churachandpur defeat N. Rohit Singh of MRBF to sail into the final. In another semi-final bout, P. Bikash of Bishnupur beat Kh. Rajesh Singh of Imphal East to enter the final.

Chess camp: Akshayam, a chess promoting club here, is organising a chess summer camp from July 1 to 7 at its Chess Learning Centre at Wireless here. The camp will be held in two batches starting from 9 am to 12 noon and 3 pm to 6 pm. The camp will be open to chess enthusiasts of any age. Only 20 trainees will be entertained on first come first serve basis. Two trainees below the age of 18 years from an economically weak background will be provided free training during the camp.
