Kumar informed the visiting chief minister that the policy commission has approved the project to construct cable car service on two corridors in Aizawl to improve the public transport system, the sources said.

He also told the chief minister that financial allocation has also been made for the project and experts from Delhi will be sent to Aizawl next week.

According to transport department officials, the proposed aerial cable car system will be constructed on North-South corridor to link Aizawl’s northernmost neighbourhood Durtlang with Kulikawn in the south.

The cable car project will also be constructed between Thuampui in the east and Solomon’s Temple in western part of the capital, which is known as East-West corridor, the officials said.

They said the proposal for the cable car was approved by the Centre after studying its feasibility.

During his meeting with the Niti Aayog vice-chairman on Tuesday, Zoramthanga also mentioned the construction of agricultural link roads across the state and asked him to facilitate the immediate release of funds for the northeastern states under 10 per cent gross budgetary scheme.

Official sources said Zoramthanga also met Union women and child development minister Smriti Irani on Wednesday during which the Union minister promised to set up a one-stop centre each in the three newly created Saitual, Khawzawl and Hnahthial districts.
