Imphal, March 15: Manipur Police Sports Club (C) rode into the semi-final, beating Chingkhei Hunba Polo Club in the 22nd Governor’s Cup Invitation Polo Tournament, which got under way at Imphal Polo ground today.

S. Abungcha Singh struck the opening goal for the policemen but S. Samananda was quick to push through the equaliser for Chingkhei Hunba in the first chukker.

In the second chukker, Th. Kaoba scored the lead for Chingkhei Hunba.

However, the policemen drew parity with S. Viking.

Soon, the policemen took the lead again through S. Abungcha. However, O. Rozer hit home the equaliser for Chingkhei Hunba in the third chukker.

In the fourth chukker, Manipur Police took the lead with T. Pradeepkumar, S. Abungcha and S. Viking hammered a goal each for the victory.

In another match, Khurai Polo Club (A) thrashed Imphal Riding Club 6-1 goal en route to the semi-final. Khurai Polo Club rider P. Jotin Singh scored the lead in the first chukker.

The second chukker was goalless and in the third, T. Roshan Singh struck two goals. N. Ranjan conceded an own goal in Khurai Polo Club’s favour. Khurai Club player L. Thompson struck two more goals.

The lone goal for Imphal Riding Club was fetched by N. Ranjan.

U-14 Boys’ Academies: Altogether 33 boys have been shortlisted in the first phase scouting of players for the AIFF U-14 Boys’ Academies.

Australian Scott O’ Donell, who is the technical director, AIFF Academies, had personally supervised the two-day assessment of the boys, along with local coaches, from the 82 present at the Khuman Lampak main stadium yesterday. The AIFF had undertaken a talent hunt in six states, including Manipur, Bengal, Mumbai, Goa, Kerala and Punjab for its four academies, which is to come up in Calcutta, Delhi, Bangalore and Maharashtra.

Each academy will have 30 students from the six states.
