Guwahati: Three persons from Assam have won the Sangeet Natak Akademi award for the year 2017.
The three are Nuruddin Ahmed for allied theatre arts-stage craft, Ramkrishna Talukdar in Xattriya and Jagannath Bayan in traditional music khol.
The general council of the Akademi had, at its meeting held in Imphal on June 8, selected 42 artists, including one joint award, for the award.
Ahmed, born in 1958 in lower Assam's Nalbari district, studied at JJ College of Arts, Mumbai.
He has so far worked as art director in 52 films, 12 theatres and 53 plays during his nearly four-decade-long career.
Talukdar was born at Bamakhata Satra Village in Pathsala in lower Assam's Barpeta district in 1963.
The dancer has been propagating Xattriya across the length and breadth of the state and performed in many other countries.
The 93-year old Bayan from Barpeta district has performed khol in various places of the state.
