Afrosh HS enter semi-finals

Imphal, June 20: Afrosh Higher Secondary School blanked Manipur Public School, Koirengei, 7-0 today, to move into the semi-finals of the Imphal East District-Level under-17 Boys’ Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament at Khuman Lampak sports complex.

The quarter-final match saw the Afrosh players dictating terms from the word go with Thangam getting the opening goal in the first minute. Later, Sailash Singh consolidated in the sixth minute and Thangam came up with his second goal in the ninth minute to post a 3-0 lead in the first half.

In the second half, Manipur Public School were hammered further with Sailash getting Afrosh their fourth goal in the 26th minute and Suresh Singh ensuring his team’s fifth goal in the 30th minute.

Sailash (34th), Maniranjan (36th) and Sundaynoon (39th) scored the other three goals for the Afrosh en route to the semi-finals.

In another quarter-final, Prime Rose English School, Khabeisoi, overcame Poiroukhongjil High School 5-4 during tie-break after both teams scored a goal each during regulation time.

Prime Rose got the break in the 19th minute after Mastan found the opening goal in the first half. However Leishemba drew parity for Poiroukhongjil in the 44th minute to level scores 1-1, resulting in the tie-break.

Prime Rose team rode on Azimuddin, Akbar Khan, Atiker and Riyash, who converted their spot kicks while Poirukhongjil High School managed to put in three goal from Suresh, Samananda, Premjit while the other two were saved by the Afrosh keeper.
