Silchar, Nov. 3: Around 20 people were injured in a 30-minute clash, using lathis and stones, between activists of the Katlicherra branch of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) and a bunch of anganwadi women workers in Katlicherra town under Hailakandi district this morning.
Police resorted to a lathicharge to disperse the two groups. The KMSS workers were protesting against alleged corrupt practices in the distribution of midday meals among schoolchildren in Katlicherra block and staged a demonstration against the involvement of anganwadi workers in such practices.
The KMSS alleged that the incident was the result of a conspiracy by Assam minister Gautom Roy to malign the image of the organisation.
