Ranchi: A group of Irgu Toli residents on Tuesday blocked a section of Harmu Bypass to protest against the dilly-dallying attitude of city police to register an FIR against two youths one of whom had allegedly urinated on the premises of a Shiv temple in the area.

According to residents, a local youth had seen Mohammed Afsar (23) urinate on the Shiv temple premises on September 12. "When the youth raised objections, Afsar along with his aide Mohammed Jubaid (25) threatened to kill him by pointing a gun. Though the matter has been reported at the local thana, the cops seem to be ignorant and the duo are roaming freely," said another resident, requesting anonymity.

During the protest, which continued for two hours from 9.30am, residents also accused police of being hand in gloves with the youths, who are apparently involved in illegal drug business.

"The duo are a terror in the locality. They pass lewd comments to school and college girls and keep roaming around on speeding bikes. They also consume drugs in the open and are involved in its business as well. All residents are really fed up with their notorious behaviour," another resident said.

Sukhdeonagar thana OC Nawal Kishore Singh promised action against the mischief-mongers.

"Primary investigation suggests that the youths had urinated in a drain beside the temple. We are looking into the allegations of local residents. We will soon take proper action," said OC Singh, adding police force had been deputed in the locality to keep vigil on anti-social elements.

Peace meeting

A peace committee meeting was held at Chutia and Hindpiri thanas in the wake of Karma and Muharram. The committee decided to ensure peaceful celebration of festivals and assist district administration in maintaining law and order in the city.
