A total of 15 achievers in their fields of work will share their experience when TEDxKanke holds its maiden event at a Ranchi hotel on Sunday.

Among them, Caroline Chavier is the co-founder of Paris Women in Machine Learning and Data Science. Nandita Nagangoudar is an engineer-manager-turned-mountaineer who has conquered four of the seven summits (highest peaks in each continent), including Mount Everest. T.V. Rao, former professor of IIM, Ahmedabad, founded the National HRD Network. Sumit Kutani took the handpan community to a space beyond alternative music. Deepak Vohra, who was a TV newsreader, became a diplomat and eventually a special adviser to the Indian Prime Minister. Archana Sharma is a scientist at CERN, Switzerland, who was part of the team that discovered the Higgs-Boson particle in 2012, and Hanna Kern is an intercontinental cyclist who raises funds for charity and motivates people to undertake an international happiness journey.

“We both have been planning to organise a TEDx event in Ranchi for a long time,” said Rajeev Gupta, who is organising the TEdxKanke event along with Kanishka Poddar.

Gupta and Poddar, as students of an executive management programme at IIM Ranchi, were involved when the B-school had organised a TEDx event for the first time in Ranchi in 2012.

Since then the two had been planning to hold such an event on their own.

“This is the first TEDx event of the state that is not being organised by any institute,” informed Poddar.

TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is an American set of conferences with the slogan “Ideas Worth Spreading”. It is run by a nonprofit organisation, Sapling Foundation.

When such an event is organised independently by an ooutfit that agrees to abide by TED norms, it’s called TEDx.
