Police on Monday raided road number 10 in Rajendra Nagar over Sunday evening’s incident when a clash over a trivial issue escalated into a full-blown fight.

Armed with hockey sticks, iron rods and other weapons, over two dozen persons from Sahni Mohallah had attacked residents of road number 10 in Rajendra Nagar, which is opposite Sahni Mohallah.

The attackers even opened fire, injuring 16-year-old Santosh Yadav who is now at Rajeshwar Hospital in Kankarbagh. His condition is stable.

On Monday morning, the police arrested Moti Sahni and detained six others. The cops are looking for Billa Sahni and his nephew Ganga Sahni, considered the brain behind the clashes.

Police sources said the fight was a fallout of another clash in the afternoon when an e-rickshaw that Ganga was driving hit a Wagon R outside a house on road number 10. Demanding damages, residents had beaten Ganga up.

Sahni Mohallah residents came to rescue Ganga. Elderly persons from both sides pacified the groups.

Around 8pm on Sunday, more than two dozen Sahni Mohallah residents attacked residents of road number 10, pelting houses with stones, damaging parked vehicles and even entering homes and misbehaving with women.

Inhabitants of road number 10 are tense.

They say residents of Sahni Mohallah and the nearby slums are often involved in anti-social activities, creating law and order problems.

“Sahni Mohallah residents sell ganja (cannabis) and liquor,” said Sunil Verma, a road number 10 resident, adding that the police had been informed several times but they did nothing.

Another resident, Madhukar Lal, said: “When Sahni Mohallah residents attacked us, we informed Kadamkuan police. But they arrived nearly 30 minutes later. Helpless residents had to retaliate in self defence.

“Sunday afternoon’s incident isn’t the provocation for the attack. They were waiting for a chance to hit back as we had complained to the police,” he added.

Deputy superintendent of police (town) Suresh Kumar said: “The police are conducting raids to nab Billa and Ganga. They’ve removed all encroachments by Sahni Mohallah residents. CCTV cameras have been installed.”
