Motihari, March 24: Several political and non-political organisations have called a dawn-to-dusk Dhaka bandh on Wednesday in protest against alleged police inaction to arrest the accused in a rape case.

Sources said one Mohammad Shamim had allegedly kept the rape in confinement for about three years in Dhaka town of East Champaran and sexually assaulted her.

The victim was later recovered from a house on February 24 this year when the Dhaka police raided the house in search of a bike theft gang. Shamim and his aides were involved in several cases of bike thefts. The main accused and his henchmen are yet to be arrested.

According to sources, Wednesday's shutdown would put pressure on the police to act fast. Dhaka is a sub-divisional headquarter town of Skiarahna sub-division of East Champaran district, around 200km north of Patna.
