Calcutta: The Durga Puja celebrations will get only better for Mouma Das as she won the National Ranking Table Tennis Championship (West Zone), in Thane, on Monday.

Mouma looked down and out in the women's singles final against Manika Batra, but staged a wonderful recovery to eventually wrap up the game 4-3.

"It feels really nice to win an event in this festive period," she said later.

"Winning these events give you the confidence and make you mentally stronger before tougher assignments. As far as this triumph is concerned, it's important to me because I couldn't go beyond the semis and quarter final in the previous two zonal meets.

"In that sense, this victory does carry some significance for me. Besides, the field (in Thane) was pretty strong. I had to prevail over someone like K. Shamini in the semi-final. So, it wasn't easy out there at all," Mouma added.

Going on the right track, Mouma has set her eyes on the upcoming Commonwealth Championship.

"The (India) squad for the Commonwealth Championship might not be finalised yet, but I'm pretty confident of securing a place. Form wise, I needn't worry much even though there's still an area or two I need to work on," she said.

Mouma has plans of travelling to Frankfurt some time in future to work further on her game. "Because of the hectic schedule ahead, I will be able to go there only next year and work on my game. Nowadays, the ball that is used in play is the plastic one, so we have to make certain adjustments.

"It's about issues like these that I would like to work on with Peter," she said.

Mouma, trailing 0-3, bounced back to win two extended games and in the decider, as in other games, Manika led comfortably before succumbing to precise chops and powerful forehand winners from Mouma. However, Manika would also rue giving away several unnecessary points once she switched on to the push-and-prod mode. It took her nowhere except conceding points after points, which Mouma accepted gleefully.
