Calcutta: The members of the West Indies team have declared July 11 as the Runako Morton Day, according to a West Indies Cricket Board media release.

Hence, the West Indies’ third one-dayer, against New Zealand, on Wednesday (July 11), has been dedicated to the memory of the former middle-order batsman. Also, the day has been declared a public holiday by the government of St Kitts & Nevis.

Morton played 15 Tests, 56 one-day Internationals and seven T20 Internationals for the West Indies between 2002 and 2010. He died earlier this year at age 33.

Wednesday’s match will be played at Warner Park in St Kitts, the sister island of Nevis. Morton was born in Nevis, where he grew up and learned to play the game.

Speaking on Monday, West Indies captain Darren Sammy made the announcement on behalf of the team. Sammy and vice-captain Dwayne Bravo have decided to go one step further and donate their match fees to Morton’s wife.

Meanwhile, the WICB selection committee named an unchanged 13-member squad for the third ODI.
