Calcutta: Having drawn much flak for being forced to hurriedly complete the season this year, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) wants to fix the anomaly in the next season. It has also been decided that the clubs won’t be given a break from participating in the local tournaments during IPL-V.
The CAB had to shift the senior division League matches to Chennai this year to complete the tournament.
At a meeting on Monday, it was decided that the next season would be planned meticulously to avoid any controversy.
“We are not going to postpone any matches next season. The clubs have to play according to the schedule,” said CAB joint secretary Biswarup Dey.
“During the IPL the clubs are reluctant to play as most of the players are engaged in the tournament. So we had to postpone matches… But we won’t listen to these excuses from the next season,” said a senior CAB official.
The CAB will relax its rules only if a player has some professional obligations to fulfil. “We can only consider the requests if the clubs do not have players due to the professional commitment of the cricketers,” said the official.
The CAB has also formally requested Mohun Bagan to be present at the annual prize distribution on Saturday after the club had announced that they will boycott the occasion in order to protest their Knockout final loss to East Bengal by the spin of the coin.
“We should have conducted the final in Chennai instead of shifting it here. We made a mistake,” said a senior CAB official.
