"Following inquiries, detectives attended a home at Manly about 9:20 am and spoke with a 51-year-old man. He has since been arrested and taken to Manly police station," NSW Police said in a statement on Wednesday.

Before starting off as a cricket commentator in 2001, Slater had played 74 Tests and 42 ODIs with Australia.

Slater is not new to controversies. Earlier this year in May, the former batsman took to social media to slam Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison for banning Australians from returning home from India when the Covid-19 outbreak was at its peak.

“If our government cared for the safety of Aussies they would allow us to get home. It’s a disgrace!!” Slater tweeted in May. “Blood on your hands PM. How dare you treat us like this. How about you sort out quarantine system?"
