Ravi Shastri did not attend the post-match press conference after India lost to New Zealand, and that didn't go down well with former India captain Mohammed Azharuddin.

During a discussion with ABP News, Azhar said, "In my view the coach should have come for the press conference. If Virat Kohli doesn't want to attend the press conference, that's fine. But, Ravi bhai should've attended the press conference."

Jasprit Bumrah appearing for the presser just didn't surprise the press. "You can't just attend press conferences after victories, you must give an explanation for defeats too. Sending Bumrah for the press conference was not right. Either the captain or the coach should have come for the presser or someone from the coaching staff," Azhar added.

India next face Afghanistan on Wednesday.

Virat Kohli and his men's run has been derailed after two crushing defeats against Pakistan and the Kiwis and the performance that they have put in is not worthy of a semi-final spot even though mathematics keeps their hopes alive.

Afghanistan have expectedly won their two games against Scotland and Namibia and were in the contest against Pakistan for the better part before Asif Ali took the game away with four sixes in one over.

For Kohli, in probably his last three matches as T20 captain of India, one would expect some prudent team selections and it starts with the question of repeatedly ignoring a player of Ashwin's calibre.
