West Indies T20I captain Rovman Powell's request to Sunil Narine to come out of international retirement and play the upcoming T20 World Cup was not considered by the off-spinner.

Powell had expressed his desire for Narine's inclusion in the Windies Cup squad following the latter's blistering century for the Kolkata Knight Riders against Rajasthan Royals last week at the Eden.

But late on Monday night, Narine, in a statement released by KKR, said he had "made peace" with his decision to retire from international cricket. "I’m truly flattered and humbled that my performances recently have moved many people to publicly express their wish for me to come out of retirement and play in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

"I have made peace with that decision and whilst I never wish to disappoint, that door is now closed and I will be supporting the guys who take the field in June for West Indies. Guys who have worked hard for the past few months and deserve to show our wonderful fans that they are capable of winning another title — I wish you all the best,” Narine's statement read.

KKR would hope Narine's good form in this IPL continues as they get ready for Punjab Kings at the Eden on Friday in the presence of principal owner Shah Rukh Khan.
